The oldest castle in Ireland, dating to 1228, Ashford fits everyone’s fantasy of a medieval fortress, with soaring turrets, breathtaking views of Lough Corrib and a resident ghost. Once owned by the Guinness family, it opened as a hotel in 1939. Its 83 rooms and suites boast traditional design, with original features carefully restored, plus the modern amenities of a luxury hotel.  The hotels magnificent setting and attention to detail make it the perfect romantic getaway. The hotel has a range of amazing activities for their guests including the castle's 9 hole private course, the Ashford Equestrian Centre,  the best fishing in all Ireland as well as a splendidly equipped falconry. Ashford Castle is also one of National Geographic's Unique Lodges of the world. 

Location

Ashford Castle is located just 30 minutes from Galway City; 90 minutes from Shannon Airport and 45 minutes from Knock Airport.

Rooms

Each of the castle's 83 rooms and suites are individually designed. Many of the original features have been preserved but all are equipped with modern amenities including Wi-Fi and interactive TV.     As part of the recent refurbishment programme, upgrade to an immaculate Corrib Lake View Room to experience elegant traditional style at its finest. The height of comfort, each is an individual statement of design inspiration, some featuring wonderful gilt and cream painter tester beds and unique furnishings to provide guests a stylish sanctuary in which to relax. Decorated with a variety of colour palettes to suit all tastes and preferences, they are an ideal choice.

  • Lake View Deluxe Room

    Discover the attention to detail in the Lake View Deluxe Rooms – newly refurbished to the highest standard with views over the magnificent Lough Corrib, providing refined traditional style and luxurious comforts in abundance. Complete with a spacious seating area, they are ideal for admiring the exquisite surroundings. Rooms feature wonderful antiques such as a German Baroque stumpwork silk decorated tester bed made for Friedrich Christian Freiherr von Spee in the late 17th Century; a Louis XV painted and parcel gilt trumeau mirror circa 1750; and satinwood and rosewood cross banded writing tables circa 1900, used as bedside tables.

  • Deluxe Queen Room

    The spacious Deluxe Queen Rooms consist of two Queen size beds with a comfortable relaxation area. Overlooking the magnificent Lough Corrib. The rooms are perfect for couples or families (suitable for two adults and two children under the age of 12 years) as they are well equipped with a large bathroom with shower and marble sinks. Many of the rooms are also interconnecting and this is guaranteed at time of reservation. Children are well looked after, and will receive robes and slippers and many other thoughtful extras including juice and cookies on arrival.

  • Staterooms

    The Staterooms are grand statements of traditional elegance and comfort, combining all the modern amenities you could wish for. These wonderfully appointed rooms are generously proportioned and feature high ceilings with views of Lough Corrib. Each Stateroom is located in the oldest part of the castle, dating back to the 13th and 17th centuries. Rooms contain feature beds and original fireplaces with exquisite antique furniture. The Staterooms also boast large bathrooms.

  • Junior Stateroom

    The exceptional Junior Staterooms showcase immaculate attention to detail, seamlessly blending suitable traditional style with modern conveniences. With fabulous views, guests are assured a luxurious and memorable stay. Some offer a split level sitting area and each is individually designed from rich regal reds to soft neutral shades to suit your preference.

  • Kennedy Suite

    Named after US Senator Ted Kennedy, who stayed at Ashford in the early 1980’s, the Kennedy Suite is located in the oldest wing of the castle and features an impressive sel~ection of antique furniture including a 19th century walnut bed, an early 18th century Spanish Armoire, and an early Victorian Rosewood centre table. The Kennedy Suite enjoys spectacular views over Lough Corrib and can be combined with the Reagan Presidential Suite to complete a private three bedroom wing of the castle.

  • Reagan Presidential suite

    Named after President Reagan, who stayed at Ashford in 1984 as a personal friend of former owner John A Mulcahy. The Reagan Presidential suite is located in the oldest wing of the castle, boasting an original fireplace, a stunning antique George III style four poster bed, original portrait art, individually sourced antiques and spectacular floor to ceiling views of Lough Corrib. This split level suite offers two bathrooms and can be combined with two adjacent rooms - the Kennedy Suite and Corrib Lake View Room - to complete a private three-bedroom wing of the castle.

  • Hideaway Cottage

    This former boathouse dates back to the Guinness era and is situated a stone’s throw from The Castle on the shores of Lough Corrib. Surrounded by private gardens and lake front views, access is through secure gates. The Cottage has been lovingly restored, the unique design includes reclaimed materials such as stone and old fire place lintels from the Castle Estate. Hand-crafted parquet flooring, original artworks, lush fabrics and a blue Murano glass chandelier adorns the ceiling. Custom furniture pieces include French Empire marquetry chests of drawers; a 20th century, four-fold European canvas screen; art by Louis Icart and a late 19th century pair of walnut armchairs covered in tapestry by Brunschwig & Fils. The Cottage will capture your heart and make you feel immediately at home. On arrival you will be greeted at The Castle and escorted to The Hideaway Cottage. A welcome basket awaits along with a fully stocked bar.  To complete your Country escape, Jack Murphy Jackets and Wellingtons are yours to take home, bicycles are available for your use and guests can also avail of the hotel and its 350-acre estate's amenities. Dine alfresco on the pier, weather permitting! The lake reflecting the stars in the evening is a memory that will stay with you for a lifetime.
