Sought by the world’s most discerning travellers and rated as one of the world’s top retreats, this heritage 1920s hotel was founded as a simple fishing lodge. Sitting on the banks of the Waikato River and the lodge is surrounded by stunning natural beauty and a feeling of tranquility and pure luxury. It is home to some of the most sought-after Rainbow trout in the world making it a top angling destination as well as an adventurous gourmet getaway, offering al fresco dining under the stars.  The rich warm floors and antique country furniture of the main lodge are designed to reflect the richness of Huka Lodge's surroundings. The intense deep greens and blues echo the forests and river, and the touches of red mirror southern sunsets.

Location

Huka Lodge is located in Taupo, in the central North Island of New Zealand. It is a 3-4 hour drive from Auckland, 4.5 hours from Wellington and 1-hour from Rotorua.

Rooms

Within 17-acres of magnificent manicured grounds, the Huka Lodge has just 25 rooms. These comprise 18 Junior Lodge Suites, one Lodge Suite and the two exclusive Huka Lodge Cottages. The Owner’s Cottage provides secluded accommodation for a maximum of eight guests and the superb Alan Pye Cottage has two bedrooms for four guests.

  • Junior Lodge Suites

Designed to allow the beauty of the landscape to dominate while providing soft light, these suites are harmonious and spacious. The suite has king beds and a lounge area. It also has a large walk through dressing room as well as a beautifully detailed ensuite bathroom including bath, shower, twin basins and under-floor heating. Mini-bar and tea and coffee facilities are also available. French doors open out to an outdoor wooden deck at the front of each Lodge Room with views across the lawn to the deep turquoise green waters of the Waikato river.

  • Lodge Suite

The 2 bedroom Lodge Suite consists of light, spacious, comfortable and cosy room containing a Super King bed and a lounge area with a cozy gas fireplace. There is a large walk through dressing room as well as a beautifully detailed ensuite bathroom including bath, shower, twin basins and under-floor heating. Mini-bar and tea and coffee facilities are also available. There is also another connecting room containing a well-appointed lounge with dining area. Both rooms that comprise this suite enjoy French doors that open out to an outdoor wooden deck at the front of each Lodge Room with views of the river.

  • Owners Cottage

The Owner’s Cottage at Huka Lodge sits on an elevated and sunny promontory above the spectacular Waikato River, within the grounds. Virtually completely hidden from view, this secluded hideaway enjoys stunning views downstream to the mighty Huka Falls. There are four superbly decorated spacious bedrooms all with super King-size beds, magnificent ensuite bathrooms and generous walk-through dressing rooms. Two of the rooms face the river while the other two enjoy a beautiful private courtyard garden aspect featuring an outdoor fireplace. The colour palette is deliberately muted with elegant use of soft cream and caramel hues for the walls and bleached oak wooden parquet floors throughout. The cottage has a central open-plan living room, a dining area comprising the heart of the Cottage with a magnificent stone fireplace and a den with computer, plasma flat screen television and DVD player. A well-equipped kitchen is set up for a personal chef. The beautifully manicured grounds of The Owner’s Cottage also feature a private heated Spa Pool overlooking the Waikato River.

  • Alan Pye Cottage

Named after the charming Irishman who established Huka Lodge, the Cottage takes every advantage of a superb location and sits above lush rolling green lawns and manicured gardens on the banks of the Waikato River.  The cottage draws on architectural elements from the 1920s and 1930s with strong reference to the sophisticated elegance of the English Arts & Crafts movement. The Cottage boasts two large and stylishly appointed bedrooms, with fireplaces, en suite bathrooms and generous walk-through dressing rooms. Both bedrooms are superbly decorated and offer a highly considered level of comfort. A magnificent and decadent open plan living room featuring a very high ceiling, with an open fireplace and dining taking place within. Tall glass doors on both sides of the room face the river on one side and the enclosed courtyard garden and outdoor pavilion on the other. The bathrooms are beautifully appointed with twin basins, deep baths, separate showers and heated towel rails. A well-equipped kitchen is set up for a personal chef – guests may choose to stay in or to wander over to the main Lodge and dine there. A study is tucked away with desk, plasma flat screen television and sound system. A heated infinity-style swimming pool and a separate private spa pool have been integrated into the outdoor landscape.
