The ION Luxury Adventure hotel was an abandoned inn converted into a luxury hotel. It is set in the Thingvellir National Park Area, where snow caddied mountains meets the dormant lava fields . The hotel is built from reclaiming material, is heated geothermically and the interior is designed in the manner that it complements its surroundings. It is surrounded by panoramic windows which offer a stunning view of the surroundings, yet the interiors have wooden walls and minimalist furniture giving the place a distinctly Nordic vibe. The 45 rooms of the hotel offer a subtle mix of concrete chic and natural earthiness. Dining at the hotel is a unique experience by itself. The Silfra Restaurant offers farm fresh cuisine with a focus on contemporary native fare. The stunning Northern Lights Bar is a highlight of the hotel with large windows and sweeping views over the landscape and starry night sky. Between May 20 and July 20, you can experience the midnight sun, with the night skies remaining light as the sun never actually sets more than six degrees below the horizon. The partially covered Lava Spa has a 10 metres hot tub, an indoor sauna and a relaxation room.

Location

The hotel is located on Mount Hengill, 18 km from the pristine wilderness of the UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park and only an hour away from Iceland’s capital Reykjavik. The hotel provides a perfect base to enjoy the rich heritage of Iceland, view of the hardy flora & fauna and an unforgettable adventure experience. 

Rooms

ION Luxury Adveture Hote has 45 rooms - 2 single sub-parterre rooms, 18 standard, 24 Deluxe rooms and 1 Thermal junior Suite . The rooms offer a view of either the white steam and vapours of the Nesjavellir Geothermal Power Station, the lake or the snow caddied mountains and lava fields. The rooms are designed in Nordic style with rough concrete walls, rich hardwood floors, furniture made from reclaimed driftwood and floor to ceiling windows giving a picture perfect view of this magnificent location. All rooms have hypo-allergenic beds with fluffy duvets, Television, Wi Fi and a kettle. The bathrooms are small but include rain showers, local toiletries by Sóley Organics, which are chemically free and luxurious, soft white cotton towels, and hairdryers.

  • Single Sub-Parterre Rooms

    The rooms have been refurnished and modernized with a touch of nature. The rooms have a view towards Lake Þingvellir. Every room has a private bathroom with shower and Icelandic soaps and lotion from Sóley Organics. In the room you find fair-trade organic linen and towels. In the room you find a TV, kettle, coffee/tea making facilities and hairdryer.

  • Standard Rooms

    There are 21 standard rooms of which 16 are twin, 2 double and 3 singles. All rooms have a view of the Nesjavellir Geothermal Power Station or the Lava fields towards the Thingvellir National Park. Each standard room has a wooden flooring, satellite television, a private bathroom with shower, telephone, desk and seating area, wardrobe, hairdryer, shoehorn and an electric kettle. They use fair-trade organic linens, hypoallergenic beds, powerful environmentally friendly showers and soaps and lotions from Sóley Organics. Room service and wake-up service is available.

  • Deluxe rooms

    There are 24 deluxe rooms each of which is designed in the Nordic style with floor to ceiling windows with a beautiful view of the Nesjavellir Geothermal Power Station or the lakes and mountains. Each deluxe room has fair trade linens, telephone, alarm clock and radio, satellite television, safety deposit box, a desk and seating area, adjustable floor heating, soundproof walls, wooden floor, wardrobe, bathrobes, private bathroom with shower, hairdryer, blankets, shoehorn, minibar, electric kettle and coffee and espresso machine. Room service and wake-up service is available. Deluxe rooms have the added benefit of bathrobes, minibars and an espresso machine.

  • Thermal Junior Suite

    Thermal Junior Suite takes its name from its surroundings and its view. Enjoy views from floor to ceiling windows across a lava field, the dormant volcano Mt. Hengill and Nesjavellir Geothermal Energy supplier. The junior suite is 37 fm2 and has a king bed, sofa bed, complementary mini bar and a Nespresso coffee machine. The bed is hypoallergenic and supremely comfortable. The suite has fair-trade organic linens and a large bathroom with a powerful environmentally friendly shower and soaps and lotions from Sóley Organics.
